Target Group: Customs Brokers, Shipping Clerks, Store Clerks, Purchasing Officers, Business Owners and anyone interested in a career in Customs Brokerage.

Background: The Harmonized system of classification is an international system in use by over one hundred countries. It is governed by rules and notes to the various sections and chapters. Upon completion of this course participants are expected to acquire a very good understanding of the rules to ensure correct classification. It is highly recommended that participants get a copy of The Common External Tariff and more importantly read it in order to be able to better understand the sections and chapters thereby reducing the number of mistakes made by brokers when classifying items.

 The structure of the HS (Legal and Non legal system, Terminology, Punctuation) Chapters 1 – 97

 General Interpretive Rules of Classification
